McDonald’s VR Happy Meal Box; Happy Googles

Do you have your Happy Googles?

McDonald’s in Sweden has begun giving out VR Google Cardboard for Mobile Devices which transforms out of a Happy Meal Box. I can remember when I was a kid, they always featured Pop-Out or Cut-Out designs like funny glasses and things like that, but this is really cool, they actually give kids a glimpse into the Virtual Reality world. VR

Why VR for McDonald’s?

As virtual reality begins to transition to mass adoption we’re seeing brands make strides in building VR accessibility for customers. McDonalds really has taken lead in transforming disposable products into functional, reused products for technology. Considering the amount of waste McDonalds Generates globally, this is really a great idea to get consumers to recycle.

McDonalds could also build their own VR experiences for customers or kids to enjoy while their parents are driving or working.

McDonald's VR
How Does it Work?

After purchasing a Happy Meal from McDonald’s you can assemble the box by folding alone the lines, there’s also two plastic lenses that can be popped into the front of the headset. What’s nice is that the box includes lenses, which make the VR effect actually work. The whole process will require a little patience but we’re confident you can figure it out.

Did McDonalds design their own game?

Not exactly, but there’s a game available to users which was specifically called out on the packaging as, “Watch out on the Slopes”.  Essentially it’s a Virtual Reality Down Hill Skiing Game. Not bad.

Conclusion:

We’d love to battle Grimace or the Hamburgler in a fist fight, Mortal Kombat style. Make it happen McDonalds! Great idea and execution with recycling the Happy Meal box into a VR Headset.
