Snapchat gets Political with their new Bad Iran Deal Filter

Snapchat appears to be making a political stance on how they feel about the recent Iran Nuclear Deal. They’re allowing users to put a filter over their own image and post their photo under a filter with text saying “HOW I FEEL ABOUT THE BAD IRAN DEAL”.

BAD IRAN DEAL SNAPCHAT

Regardless about how we feel about this issue or where we stand on it, what we find interesting here is the idea of becoming the advertisement and how quickly a brand like snapchat could create a wave of content simply by adding a custom filter to their app.

Think about it, simply by giving millions of users this option, it is guaranteed to generate content. The same concept could be applied in augmented reality, photo-booths, and other image manipulating experiential software.

What’s interesting to think about is what may come from this thinking in the future. Potentially a new avenue for paid advertising? Allowing brands the ability to customize and integrate these lay-over designs or graphics so that consumers can post about how they feel about their favorite or most hated brands.

We haven’t seen any other social media networks with photo filters do anything of this nature, it’s an industry first in this space. It makes sense, politically. Snapchat is the primary source of information for a lot of younger voters, so it’s the best way to actually educate younger voters.
